Academic Commons is the centralized learning assistance center within GW Libraries and Academic Innovation (GWLAI). Located at the entrance of Gelman Library, Academic Commons supports students, faculty, staff, and alumni of the GW community in their learning. Academic Commons offers an array of programming services to support the GW community. The Manager, Academic Commons will oversee the review sessions and group drop-in tutoring sessions offered by the course-based undergraduate learning assistants (ULAs). The Manager will proactively coordinate with faculty and academic department administrators to manage the hiring and supervision of the ULAs. Partnering with other members of the Academic Commons team and in consultation with the academic departments, the Manager will develop and facilitate training for the ULAs and will conduct observations of review sessions and drop-in tutoring sessions to ensure quality. The position will develop new partnerships across campus and serve as the point person for outreach to prospective faculty and academic departments interested in hosting review sessions and drop-in tutoring sessions through Academic Commons. This is a management position at the university that, in addition to leading a work unit, leads and supervises student-staff directly, makes hiring decisions, provides coaching, training, and mentoring, manages performance, and determines future staffing needs.
