POSITION SUMMARY

The Foundation Partnerships Officer is responsible for identifying and securing diversified revenue opportunities for the Foundation through new partnerships, channels and business models. This includes forming and cultivating relationships with the largest charitable foundations to ensure the proactive inclusion of APAF in grant opportunity solicitations. This includes identifying writing and securing new grants in support of the APA Foundation's (APAF) strategic pillars where we Live, Learn, Work, Worship, and Play. Additionally, the Foundation Partnerships Officer will create new business models and craft the associated value proposition in support of the Foundations strategic plan and Mental Health Care Works Campaign enabling the development of long term sustainable partnerships. Ideally the Foundation Partnerships Officer brings an established and extensive network of charitable foundations and corporate donors from prior experience. Additionally, the Foundation Partnerships Officer has primary responsibility for Impact Tours and for Legacy Giving through the cultivation of relationships with pre identified large capacity members. This position monitors the Voice of the Marketplace and tracks the development and value propositions of other mental health organizations and makes recommendations as needed. The Foundation Partnerships Officer represents the Foundation at industry functions, conferences and at external events.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify and Secure New Revenue Streams
    • Develop Mental Healthcare Works B2B value proposition and value exchange
      • Explore and recommend new revenue and awareness generating business models
      • Consider different industries needs to engage customers, communities, and employees
      • Identify ways to expand the reach of the APAF Brand
      • Determine how to deploy existing assets / create new assets

  • Develop Long-term Sustainable Partnerships
    • Create target list of prospects
    • Build pipeline of potential partners and report on progress
    • Secure partnerships
      • Depending on nature of partnership manage relationship or transition to program team
      • Develop plan to announce new partnerships
      • Measure ongoing growth and impact of partnership
      • Renegotiate partnerships based on learnings and value

  • Create B2B Development Materials
    • Oversee the development and maintenance of a library of slides that clearly articulate the Foundations brand story and value proposition
      • Capture testimonials from corporate and foundation donors
      • Capture testimonials of those with lived experience
      • Develop case studies to bring credibility to industry discussions
    • APAF B2B Communications
      • Oversee B2B communications to ensure consistency in message, themes and look for all development outreach materials
      • Oversee the creation and production of APAF B2B communications materials (brochures, reports, ads etc.) that promote the partnership opportunities with APAF

  • Philanthropy Workgroup
    • Interface with and lead meetings quarterly with Philanthropy workgroup comprised of APA members
    • Secure introductions to prospects (philanthropists, foundations, corporations etc.).

  • Impact Tours
    • Plan and coordinate all facets of APAF Impact Tour(s) event venue, run of show depending on event and city
    • Develop and manage guest list, donors, high capacity members, Foundation introductions
    • Manage fundraising opportunities, community engagement and cultivation opportunities

  • Build Relationships with Largest Charitable Foundations
    • Research and identify prospective charitable foundations and organizations for grant and or partnership opportunities with an interest in mental health
    • Cultivate relationships and build brand presence and awareness amongst large charitable foundations and charitable organizations
    • Represent APAF and the breadth of programs to proactively ensure APAF is on the call list for grant proposals
    • Bring Director, Development and/or Executive Director in as needed for executive level engagements
    • Responsible for securing large grant opportunities that are aligned with APAFs strategic plan
    • Writes grants while managing the timely receipt of content from subject matter experts
    • Tracks submissions and outcomes

  • Legacy Program and High Capacity Donors
    • Responsible for cultivating relationships with high net worth/capacity individuals
    • Turn prospects into donors by sharing APAFs Legacy Program as well as APAF vision for a Mentally Healthy Nation
    • Identify points of interest and continue to build relationship with donor moving to a legacy donor
    • Visit with prospects and donors as part of impact tours and travel to further build the relationship

  • Voice of the Market / Competitive Scan
    • Periodically scan the marketplace to assess other mental health nonprofits/foundations (SWOT analysis) and their value propositions as compared to APAFs position
    • Assess differences, similarities in value exchange and make recommendations on APAF value exchange
    • Understand funder landscape and opportunities to explore as potential APAF funders
    • Share findings and recommendations with Development team and

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Corporate partnerships may not be abundantly clear at the start of discussions, however, through the identification and alignment of objectives and goals the value becomes apparent
  • Is adept at understanding and valuing partnerships that build the APAF brand, enhance the reach, have an in-kind value exchange, and drive revenue
  • Contributes to revenue growth goals and budgetary goals through proper administration of projects/activities
  • Identifies novel and complex problems and issues. Designs and implements solutions with management approval. Designs are likely to include alternatives
  • Recognizes complex problems and escalates them to the appropriate level

RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT & AUTHORITY

  • Relationships span levels internally and externally and center on partnering with clients/customers and organizational partners
  • Uses diplomatic skills to obtain trust and cooperation when bringing new ideas and partnerships forward
  • Likely to represent the organization as an APAF leader to outside organizations

ORGANIZATIONAL KNOWLEDGE

  • Demonstrates a general knowledge of APAFs processes, relationships, and responsibilities as well as the interactions within the organization
  • Understand the type of partnerships that enable APAF to deliver against its strategic plan

SUPERVISION

  • Coaches and mentors junior level staff
  • May have formal staff management responsibilities of 1-2 employees

Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • College degree, advanced degree preferred.
  • 8+ years business development and/or fundraising experience, preferably in a Foundation/Association.
  • Experience developing large multiyear partnerships.
  • Grant writing experience 3 to 5 years experience.
  • Experience with high net worth individuals and legacy / large gift donors 3 to 5 years experience.
  • Experience with marketing, sales and/or fundraising 5+ years experience
  • Established network of charitable foundation and corporate partners
  • Strong professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Position will interact with Psychiatrists, Directors, Business Executives, Grant officers, managers and staff at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage, and oversee complex budgets, grants and contracts.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple tasks. simultaneously and able to rigorously follow-up on task and responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently and cross functionally to prioritize a heavy varied workload.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Adobe Connect
