Ballard Spahr, a prestigious national law firm with 15 offices across the country, has a Practice Applications Specialist opportunity available in our Information Technology Department. We are looking for a self-driven, independent-thinking individual who works effectively as part of a larger team, both within the department and with other firm departments. They will have a thorough understanding of the technical support and troubleshooting of specialized practice-specific applications - both purchased and internally-developed. This individual will be responsible for evaluating solutions, and implementing and testing applications. Must think strategically giving careful attention to detail and maintain focus on priorities while meeting deadlines. In addition, the Specialist will be responsible for developing usage workflows, generating application reports, and managing a number of administrative functions such as internal data collections and data archiving. This position is located in Philadelphia however will consider a remote option if located in close proximity to one of our offices in New Jersey, Washington DC or Wilmington DE with the expectation to work in the office as needed.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing technical support and application troubleshooting.

  • Maintaining a continuum of state-of-the-art technology required for the firm's practice groups.

  • Working closely with the Practice Applications Manager to ensure the team is meeting user needs in a timely fashion.

  • Integrating with users in a positive and productive manner for both trouble-shooting applications issue and developing new solutions.

  • Creating custom functions and reports within prepackaged applications.

  • Maintaining and creating custom data repositories according to the firm's needs.

The selected candidate will have a breadth of technical skills focusing primarily on application management and support as well as strong, analytical and organizational skills. An aptitude for learning practice-specific applications, and proactively maintain expertise and proficiency regarding technologies and services to support the position. Displaying a strong work ethic and the ability to effectively communicate business and technical problems and solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences, including at times, senior management, are required.

A bachelor's degree or related technical training and certification in Information Technology or related field. Two years of relevant experience and working knowledge with application support. Experience with desktop configuration and support of applications such as Microsoft Office and a generic understanding of databases. Experience with tracking and installation software patches and upgrades, as well as familiarity with Microsoft SL Server and/or SQL. Previous experience working in a law firm or legal environment preferred.
