Job Summary Scientific Technical Writer is responsible for writing technical reports about preclinical studies, assisting with preparation and submission of scientific manuscripts, and working with the team to advance internal and external communication about vaccine candidates in the Discovery Department. The individual will be a hands-on contributor and will play a key role in documenting results of preclinical studies for regulatory submissions and publications. The candidate is expected to be highly self-motivated, well organized, proficient in written and oral communication, and a reliable teammate. This position is remote with the option to work on-site (Gaithersburg, MD) if desired, and reports to the Lead Scientific Technical Writer, Vaccine Development.

Essential Functions

  • Write and edit technical reports describing results of preclinical studies and assays
  • Write, edit, and submit scientific manuscripts about preclinical studies and vaccine development research
  • Analyze data and present results graphically
  • Participate in discussions about how to present data for publication
  • Collaborate with Discovery scientists and colleagues from other departments including Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Development, and Program Management
  • Participate in regular progress-tracking meetings to ensure the team, department, and company are meeting critical milestones

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)

* Proficiency with data analysis and visualization (Graphpad Prism preferred)

* Excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, and time management skills



Education, Experience, Licenses & Certifications

* B.S. in Biological Sciences with 4+ years of experience in scientific communication, OR advanced degree in Biological Sciences or Scientific Communication with 2+ years of experience in scientific communication

* Experience writing and/or editing technical documents and manuscripts about biological science topics (fields such as immunology, vaccines, biologics, and infectious disease preferred)

* Experience preparing scientific manuscripts for publication, including writing, editing, and submission for peer review
