About the role

Covanta is a world leader in sustainable waste management and renewable energy. Covanta's 45 Energy-from-Waste (EfW) facilities provide communities and businesses around the world with an environmentally sound solution to their solid waste disposal needs by using waste to generate clean, renewable energy.

The role of Shift Supervisor at Covanta Indianapolis must foster an environment of Safety, Environmental Stewardship and a commitment to our customers. As a leadership role this person must be able to direct his team through mentoring and coaching to develop excellence in the operation of an EfW facility.

  • The Shift Supervisor will review, prioritize and direct the daily work activities of the operations group during his assigned shift.

  • Manage the functional activities of the Control Room Operator, 3 Auxiliary Operators and Crane Operator to ensure quality and timeliness of our customers.

  • Delineate and enforce the safety procedures and policies for the Operations Department and other support teams.

  • Closely monitor the production and maintenance activities of the facility and assist in planning and executing both scheduled and unscheduled outage work as well as the timely completion of operating duties.

  • Support the development of recommendations for plant improvements.

  • Confer with representatives of other departments in solving interrelated operational, administrative, organizational and technical problems.

  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • HS Diploma/GED.

  • Requires a background in power plant operations, including at least five (5) years' experience in hands-on and/or supervision of power plant machinery.

  • Ability to work shift work as required to support staffing of the facility 24x7x365.

  • While performing the duties of the job, frequent standing, walking, crouching, crawling and kneeling may be required.

  • Other physical requirements include the ability to work in moderate extremes of temperature and humidity (hot or cold), work in confined spaces, work at elevations and wear a full-face respirator.

  • Proficiency with MS Office (word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) products as well as exposure to computer-based Maintenance Management Systems is desired.

  • Experience with DSC and CEM equipment is desirable as is experience as a Control Room Operator at a facility with a PC Based DCS system.

  • Must be current holder of an ASME provisional certificate and be able to pass site specific operator exam within 6 months of hire.
