JHUAPL is seeking highly skilled and motivated engineers with experience in systems engineering, mechanical systems, robotic/autonomous systems, software engineering, entry decent and landing (EDL), and verification and validation (V&V) to join our dynamic teams supporting NASA missions including Dragonfly and IMAP, as well as various national security space missions. Successful candidates will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design, develop, test, and operate complex systems and subsystems enabling cutting-edge technology development and innovative solutions for a variety of domains.

As a Space Exploration Sector Engineering Expert...

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements and specifications for autonomous systems, subsystems, and payloads.
  • Work across APL and a number of NASA organizations on defining EDL requirements, implementing solutions and addressing verification and validation needs.
  • Design, develop, and implement innovative solutions for spacecraft systems, subsystems, and payloads ensuring adherence to project objectives, schedules, and budgets.
  • Perform engineering tasks such as requirements analysis, system architecture development, trade studies, and technical assessments.
  • Conduct thorough analysis, simulation, and testing to verify system performance, reliability, and safety in both nominal and off-nominal scenarios.
  • Perform structural analysis and simulation to ensure the integrity and performance of mechanical systems under various mission conditions.
  • Implement software algorithms for autonomous operations, fault detection, and adaptive control in space systems.
  • Apply a knowledge of autonomous systems, robotics, AI/ML, and/or related technologies to complex aerospace systems
  • Support integration, assembly, and testing activities for spaceflight hardware and software components.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance throughout the lifecycle of the project, from conceptual design through mission operations.
  • Develop and integrate autonomous systems for spacecraft operations, including guidance, navigation, and control algorithms.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Proven experience (10+ years) in systems engineering, subsystems engineering, or related roles within the aerospace or defense industry.
  • Strong proficiency in systems engineering principles and practices, including requirements management, system integration, and verification/validation.
  • Proficiency in systems engineering tools and methodologies including modeling, analysis, and simulation, and risk assessment and analysis.
  • Demonstrated leadership of large technical teams.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Are able to obtain a Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

  • Hold a Master's Degree or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
  • Have demonstrated capability to respond to highly dynamic operational environments.
  • Are able to obtain a Top Secret (or higher) security clearance.
