Who we are looking for:

Are you a talented communicator who effectively engages your audience, brings exceptional presentation skills, and demonstrates a strong passion for creating impactful strategies?

In this high-profile role as Corporate Communications Specialist you will create, manage, and implement initiatives that support ASCO's corporate, employee, and executive communications programs. Join our Integrated Communications and Marketing Department in aligning our initiatives and meaningful work with the Society's Strategic Plan and department goals.

Remote candidates welcome or primary location in Alexandria, VA.

Responsibilities

  • Develop engaging and creative content for and manage daily operations for multiple digital employee communications channels
  • Maintain and update corporate materials and web content, such as Workday resources, About ASCO references, ASCO.org leadership pages, internal presentations, and boilerplates; and communicate changes to internal stakeholders on a timely and efficient basis
  • Serve as a strategic communications lead for internal/support service departments, including Finance, Facilities, IT, and Human Resources, by working with department vice presidents and other colleague to increase awareness of new programs, initiatives, and changes
  • Research, write, and edit informative and captivating content encompassing quality editorial standards for both staff and volunteer leadership for multiple internal and external communications channels in support of ASCO priorities
  • Lead the strategy to develop and disseminate key messaging, emails, FAQs, and other resources as needed to support change management communications
  • Support organizational issues management work and assist department leadership in developing and executing crisis communications plans
  • Manage logistics, agenda development, and supporting meeting materials for bi-annual hybrid Cancer Communications Committee meetings; create year-round communications and engagement strategies; serve as primary staff liaison; and manage onboarding process
  • Work with CEO office, Facilities, and Meetings to coordinate communications functions for all-staff meetings, presidential town halls, and employee engagement activities and manage Q&A portions of all meetings
  • Manage Corporate Communications budget by tracking and monitoring expenses and developing annual budget
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed to support business needs

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field
  • 5+ years of relevant corporate communications experience (e.g., agency, public relations, internal communications, etc.) with increasing levels of responsibility
  • Strong project management experience, leading multiple initiatives from start to completion
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media platforms

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Teams and SharePoint
  • Budget management experience
  • Executive communications or past agency experience a plus

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey messages clearly and concisely
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, as well as the journalistic ability to source stories from employees or other audiences
  • Strong analytical skills and critical thinking skills with ability to proactively anticipate solutions and next steps
  • Excellent organizational skills and high attention to detail, with the ability to effectively manage multiple projects within a team-based and individual setting
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines, prioritize, and multi-task
  • Ability to foster and build relationships within all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively in teams
  • Technically savvy and ability to use technology to grow business objectives, and a willingness to adapt to new technology

ADA/Physical Requirements

Extended periods seated or standing at a desk.

High use of computer and other office technology equipment.

Travel

8-10 days/yr.
