GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Senior Environmental Specialist to assist with field assessments and documentation of environmental resources for electric transmission and other energy-related projects. The individual will also assist in the compilation of data and the preparation of reports and permitting documents for electric transmission and other energy-related projects. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment that will utilize their related experience to develop professionally and grow in today's global environment. This position is eligible for GAI's flexible Hybrid work schedule.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist environmental field surveys including but not limited to wetland and stream delineations, endangered species surveys, environmental inspections, and compliance monitoring.
  • Data collection using handheld GPS.
  • Assist with the preparation of permit applications, wetland delineation, and other environmental reports.
  • Assist with siting investigations and report preparation.
  • Must be flexible; travel will be expected as part of this position. Fieldwork in rough terrain possible, exposed to weather and outdoor hazards. Travel to remote areas driving on rough roads in a variety of weather conditions.

Qualifications:

  • BS/MS degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of experience in conducting wetland delineations in OH, WV, PA, VA, and/or surrounding states.
  • Knowledge of/experience with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual (1987) and Regional Supplements.
  • Ability to identify upland and wetland vegetation and experience using field guides and dichotomous keys a plus;
  • Knowledge of federal and state wetlands and streams permitting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Must be able to travel, including overnight trips.
  • A valid Driver's License is required.

  • This position requires hiking up to 2 or more miles per day and carrying up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to hike moderate distances through unimproved terrain, utility rights-of-way, and in remote areas.
  • Fieldwork will be conducted in variable weather and environmental conditions, often requiring long or irregular hours.
  • A commitment to safely performing job duties in these conditions is required.
