Job Summary: Manhattan Strategy Group (MSG), a rapidly growing management and social sciences consulting firm based in Bethesda, MD, is seeking a Director of Communications. MSG provides consulting services across the federal government in the areas of 1) Research & Evaluation, 2) Marketing & Communications, 3) Technology, 4) Training & Technical Assistance, and 5) Program Management. Our core clients include the U.S. Departments of Health and Human Services, Education, Justice, Labor, and the National Science Foundation. Candidates will join a dynamic team working together to deliver award-winning creative solutions to our current federal clients.
The Health Communications Director is responsible for promoting MSG's corporate narrative and core values to raise awareness and improve key stakeholders' familiarity and favorability with MSG over time. The Communications Director will lead all aspects of MSG's communications strategy, including external and internal communications supporting MSG employees, customers, business partners, image/media management, and others. The candidate will collaborate closely with our Executive Leadership Team and other senior staff across the company. The candidate will also manage the company's communication portfolio across contracts and contribute to business development needs.
Job Responsibilities/Duties:
Develop and execute comprehensive, measurable communications strategies aligned to MSG's purpose, mission, and values on behalf of internal and external stakeholders to advance MSG's business objectives.
  • Enhance and maintain effective internal communication channels, ensuring that employees are informed and engaged to help support employee satisfaction and retention.
  • Manage the company's communication portfolio across contracts, including strategic communications support to federal clients and senior executives.
  • Lead business development initiatives, including capture, research, and proposal development.
  • Oversee the creation and distribution of compelling and engaging content across various platforms, including websites, listservs, press releases, blogs, newsletters, and social media.
  • Manage and mentor a team of communication professionals, provide guidance and support, and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Implement and monitor key performance indicators to assess the impact of communication efforts and make data-driven improvements.
  • Promote brand awareness and manage the company's public image, ensuring consistency with the company's messaging and positioning- including website, press releases, media kits, and other messaging tools.
Education:
  • An undergraduate degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or other relevant degrees, is preferred; an MBA or other graduate degree is a plus.
Qualifications:
  • A strategic thinker with 15 years of experience designing, executing, measuring, and refining external and internal Communications plans.
  • Strong experience driving measurable outcomes by shaping and developing external and internal narratives aligned to corporate purpose and values.
  • Experience leading a portfolio of communications work with federal agencies or on federal contracts in Health (preferred), Human Services, Labor, Education, or Justice, including experience adhering to usability, accessibility, branding, style guide, technical standards, and federal plain language guidelines.
  • Demonstrated experience leading business development initiatives, including capture, research, and proposal development.
  • A proven communications strategist and tactician who has demonstrated the ability to build a brand and manage the reputation of an organization either as a consultant or an in-house executive.
  • Proven ability to support and manage a highly matrixed organization with complex integrated workflows.
  • Proven management skills and experience in hiring, mentoring, coaching, and retaining a high-performing communications and marketing team.
  • A management style that is accessible, flexible, decisive, and supportive with the ability to provide clear direction and delegate where appropriate.
  • Excellent project management skills with a keen ability to anticipate needs and develop recommendations based on scenario planning.
  • Excels at managing, editing, writing, analyzing, and synthesizing complex materials and has demonstrated the ability to communicate highly technical or nuanced information in a manner easily understood under time constraints.
  • Expert in business and creative writing, storytelling, editing, and design, capable of creating and delivering exceptional and consistent messaging across multi-media communications channels, such as websites, social media, etc.
  • Creative thinker with a desire and ability to seek and optimize opportunities for innovation.
  • Strong personal diplomacy, including a highly professional temperament and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Smart, outgoing, personable, and collegial, with proven experience as a trusted communications advisor to senior executives.
  • Advanced experience in creating PowerPoint presentations.
  • Developing strategic recommendations and creating a story flow within decks. Knowledge of how to set up slides to be visually appealing and easy to read and understand.
