This position is for weekend on-call shifts with opportunity for prn shifts. Friday 9pm thru Monday 7am.

The Ultrasound Technologist performs ultrasonography exams and procedures for the diagnosis of disease and injury. Performs various imaging procedures in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.

Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need, which may include but is not limited to: holidays, extended shifts, night and/or weekend shifts, standby and/or on-call. Reports to: Supervisor/Manager/Director, Medical Imaging

Essential Functions

Prepares patients for exam; communicates instructions and information. Answers their questions; puts patient at ease. Follows AIDET model to consistently achieve highest quality of patient satisfaction. Maintains patient privacy and safety. Obtains required medical information (using approved assessment form) from patient prior to procedure or examination as is appropriate. Reviews patient history and physician's orders for appropriateness. Provides patient with discharge instructions and ensures the patient leaves the department in a safe manner. Escorts the patient to the lobby or next destination, whenever possible.

Demonstrates a high level of technical competency (utilization of imaging system and safe operating procedures) and clinical competency (patient positioning, knowledge of anatomy/physiology) in performing all exams/ procedures. Following department-approved protocols, produces images/exams that are highly diagnostic and all related functions including scanned documents are submitted to the radiologist within an acceptable turn-around time. Assists radiologist in performing procedures as necessary.

Following department and modality specific policies, procedures and protocols, safely administers contrast media, medications and radiopharmaceuticals to patients; demonstrates a high level of competency in establishing an IV when required. Consults with radiologist regarding changes in physician order, exam protocol and patient status.

Demonstrates a working knowledge of all safety guidelines and procedures, while providing patient care and related tasks. Wears radiation monitoring badge(s) when on duty. Utilizes radiation safety equipment, e.g. aprons, gloves, lead shielding. Consistently utilizes maximum beam collimation; practices ALARA principles and monitors radiation dose as required.

Performs timely, accurate quality control testing as required by the imaging system manufacturer and accrediting agencies. Documents results as required. Initiates and performs basic trouble shooting of system errors. Contacts equipment service department and/or engineer as necessary. Communicates system limitations to all appropriate staff and provides status report to supervisor/manager.

Consistently follows all elements of prescribed electronic workflow. Correctly and accurately utilizes the RIS and/or PACS to access patient information, enter charges, complete examinations, record allergies, etc. Promptly delivers exam paperwork to radiologist, when necessary. Creates and maintains records of nuclear medicine exams conducted, test results, patients doses, and disposition of controlled materials.

Adheres to all federal, state, the Joint Commission, OSHA, ACR, and any other applicable regulatory and/or accrediting agency guidelines. Demonstrates proper infection control practice and adheres to Infection Control Policies and Procedures and OSHA standards.

Qualifications

Minimum Education
Graduate from an Accredited Program in one or more medical imaging modalities as described below.

Minimum Work Experience
Preferred - 1+ years of experience as a registered technologist in the appropriate modality

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

X Certified/licensed in good standing with appropriate professional registry

Certified/licensed in good standing with appropriate professional registry:

* Ultrasound: Must be RDMS.(Or a graduate of a CAAHEP accredited program and RDMS examination eligible. Must become ARDMS Registered as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer within 12 months of hire, or within 18 months for new graduates)
