Global Science & Technology, Inc., a fast-growing high technology firm, is seeking Software Test Engineer to support NASA's Terrestrial Information Systems Laboratory.

The position is located in Greenbelt, MD. Work assignments will be done remotely until the NASA facility reopens, at which point a hybrid model of onsite and telework each week will likely be put in place.


Position Summary:

Support NASA Goddard HBG scientific programming activities, as part of the MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectro-radiometer) and VIIRS (Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite) Science Software Transfer Group (SSTG).

The Software Test Engineer will perform system software troubleshooting for MODIS and VIIRS data sets. Provides integration and testing support to generate and maintain Land products using NASA Science team algorithms. Perform system tests, science tests, and debug the MODIS Adaptive Processing System Services (MODAPS) production errors. Work with VIIRS and MODIS science team members and their code developers to support the development and integration of MODIS and VIIRS science codes. Perform command line testing and integration testing in the MODAPS environment and upon successful integration of the code, make deliveries of code to the Configuration Management (CM) Group for baselining in data operation.

Primary Duties:

General duties:
* Analyze, assess, review, rewrite, and test program code as appropriate according to contract specifications.
* Perform development and implementation related activities for various programming applications.
* Test and troubleshoot programs utilizing the appropriate hardware, database, and programming technology.
* Update documentation as needed to reflect updates in science codes.

Detailed duties:

* Maintain NPP/VIIRS code integration cycles by integrating and writing new code, performing unit tests and integration tests and delivering code packages for baselining.
* Integrate and transition new software code packages into associated production systems, such as the NASA Land Science Information Processing System (LandSIPS) or MODAPS.
* Work on documentation, code, creating test cases and running unit tests and integration tests.
* Troubleshoot, debug and support problems in VIIRS data production.
* Interact with Configuration Management to get software code and products delivered and baselined.
* Work with the Quality Assurance (QA) group to assess software code quality

Secondary Duties:

* Collaborate with team members to develop software tests
* Participate in team and teleconference meetings, as needed.
* Attend professional conferences or symposiums, as needed.
* Assist outreach, publication, and educational activities, as needed.


Qualifications:

* B.S. degree (M.S. preferred) in Computer Science or related field and minimum 3 years of experience or equivalent
* Minimum of 3 years of scientific programming experience with C, C++ or Fortran90
* Proficiency in Unix/Linux/Windows operating systems with a minimum of 3 years of experience with Perl or Unix shell scripts
* Proficiency with SQL databases
* Familiarity with Postgres database and executing database queries SQL
* Proficiency with version control, such as Git and Gitlab
* Capable of using debugging tools like Valgrind and GDB
* Experience with Perl, and the ability to work with HDF/HDF5/NetCDF format and tools such as HDFview, HDFLook, ENVI
* Experience in collaborating effectively with other team members to meet deadlines
* Good communication skills
