Position Responsibilities

At IPS, you'll apply your knowledge, skills and passion to make a difference in the lives of people, solving complex challenges related to pharmaceutical, biotech, and animal health research and manufacturing facilities. We're looking for an experienced, creative Senior Electrical Engineer, recognized for technical expertise, to work independently on various design projects concurrently. Responsibility will include oversight of the entire design process or assisting as a technical expert on a specialized design.

As an experienced electrical engineer, you'll assess the requirements of a project, break it into tasks, and work with a Project Manager to determine scope of work, budget and staffing. After assigning work to the project team, you'll regularly review their progress and alert the PM to any changes in scope. Maintaining quality in accordance with company production and design standards is critical.

Based in Germantown, MD in the Washington, D.C./Baltimore area, you'll research design options and write electrical design scopes of work based on preliminary reviews and meetings with clients. You'll also prepare engineering studies and schematic designs for new systems and analyze operation of existing systems. Some drawings you'll create yourself, and other sketches will be incorporated into drawings by drafters. You may create specialized drawings such as electrical riser diagrams. Knowledge of local codes and industry standard equipment and ability to specify it for proper applications is important. You'll also do estimating, review contractor application for payments, review construction budgets, and coordinate document completion.

As a leader on the electrical design team, you'll share knowledge with and mentor junior staff who will be excited to learn from you! You will regularly interact with clients, listening to their needs, and positively demonstrating the IPS focus on client experience. You'll build strong relationships with internal design teams and external clients as you work to provide solutions, all while building life impacting facilities.

We offer a flexible, hybrid structure, with the ability to work up to 4 days per week locally from home and 1 day in the office. You'll be expected to travel for occasional meetings and site visits (around 5-15% of your time).

Qualifications & Requirements
    Minimum 8 years' previous design experience. Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Nutraceutical or Life Science industry experience is strongly preferred.
  • Bachelors of Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Registered Professional Engineer is strongly preferred.
  • Expertise in computer operation for engineering design programs and computer aided drafting (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.)
  • Experience with design of building electrical systems, such as: building service, power distribution, generators, lighting, fire alarm, security and other low voltage systems is a must.
  • Must also have a strong understanding of the National Electric Code (NEC), NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, IBC and other related building codes and standards.
  • Experience with medium voltage systems, electrical hazardous classified areas, and telecommunications systems is a plus.
